What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy uses various techniques to help your body move well and stay well. Our physiotherapists are experts in the analysis of movement and function. They have comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, joints biomechanics, pain, tissue injury and healing and exercise therapy.

Physiotherapists can help prevent injury and pain through assessment, education and encouragement to participate in safe physical activity. Physiotherapists can also help reduce pain and stiffness, increase mobility and restore strength through exercise.

What types of problems can a Physio treat?

Physiotherapists treat a diverse range of conditions in the young through to the older population. Common conditions we see include neck pain and headaches, back pain, sport injuries, joint pain and arthritis. We assist in restoring mobility and function in post surgical patients. We also have a strong focus on health promotion and injury prevention through education, advice and exercise therapy such as clinical Pilates.

What treatments does a Physio use?

At Walkerville Physiotherapy, treatment usually involves ‘hand-on’ manual therapy. This may include massage, joint mobilisation or stretching. The use of additional therapies such as ultrasound, interferential or heat may also be indicated.

We aim to help our clients understand and manage their injury or condition through practical advice on day to day activities and by teaching exercises that complement our treatment.
